Classes are cancelled if it falls on a State or Federal Holiday.

Kyu testing is usually held on a Monday.

Beginner and Advanced Classes are cancelled during kyu testing.

Beginners Class (5 years and up)

The beginners class develops fundamental techniques such as basic core punches, kicks, and blocks and also incorporates training in the first five basic Wado katas. Basic kumite or sparring techniques are also introduced at this stage.

Advanced Class (Black Belt Level Training)

The advanced class is dedicated to the study of higher-level Wado Karate, encompassing advanced techniques in punching, kicking, and blocking, with emphasis on tai-sabaki (body shifting) and nagashi (deflecting) movements. Training also includes advanced black belt level Wado katas and kihon kumite (pre-arranged sparring drills).

This class is primarily composed of black and brown belt students, with brown belts receiving focused preparation for their Shodan black belt examination. Exceptional students of green belt rank and above may be invited to participate if they demonstrate readiness and a strong grasp of core foundational principles. Kumite (sparring) practice also forms an integral part of the advanced curriculum.

Kyu (rank) Testing

Kyu (rank) examinations are conducted twice a year or every six months, generally in December and June. Students who believe they are ready to advance in rank are encouraged to participate. The head sensei maintains the authority to decide if a student requires more training before being eligible to test. A testing fee of $10.00 per student applies regardless of passing or failing the examination. Those who successfully pass will be awarded an official kyu certificate and their next color belt.
